The City of Surrey and Coast Capital Savings are proud to present Surrey Canada Day 2014. This year’s celebration plans to be the largest Canada Day event in Western Canada with attendance expected to surpass 100,000 people. The event marks Canada’s 147th birthday and highlights include: top-notch entertainment; a half a million square feet of site area; an expanded Kids Play area; family fun for all ages; over 100 exhibitors; Shooting Star Amusements with superior midway games and rides; and a spectacular fireworks for the grand finale.
“Canada Day is a day to celebrate our Canadian pride, heritage and cultural diversity,” said City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts. “Every year, Surrey hosts a spectacular Canada Day event that keeps getting bigger and better with some of the world’s best headliners. I look forward to seeing everyone there.”
This year’s main stage presented by Chevron boasts another stellar lineup featuring headlining Canadian rock icon, Matthew Good and Vancouver rising stars, Daniel Wesley and Kyprios for an amazing evening of music. During his 20-year career, Matthew Good has released ten studio albums, a live album, and two compilations. All of Good’s studio releases have landed in the Top 10, with two of them debuting at number one. He has achieved multi-platinum status and has been nominated for twenty Juno awards, winning four.
The entertainment line-up runs non-stop all day with a number of musical highlights: newcomers Halfway to Hollywood and country music favourite Ray Gibson kick off the early afternoon music. Barracuda – a Heart Tribute band – and Country Divas will liven up the early evening; and renowned local DJ Flipout will keep the good vibes going between bands.
“Everyone in Surrey looks forward to Canada Day at our high capacity Cloverdale location,” said Councillor Hepner, Chair of the City’s Parks, Recreation & Sport Tourism Committee. “This year’s event has something for everyone: great entertainment, carnival rides, games, community activities and family fun, and one of the best-ever fireworks displays. We’re incredibly thankful to the many generous sponsors, including this year’s presenting sponsor Coast Capital Savings, CTV, Chevron to name a few, that together help make an event of this magnitude so successful.”
The event will take place Tuesday, July 1st at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre located 176 Street & 64th Avenue in Cloverdale. The concert is free to the public and gates open at 10 am with the fireworks show slated for 10:15 pm.
