Tricycle Races

Nine teams entered the annual Rodeo Tricycle Races. Shown here are first place winners The Copans (Darcy, Rob and Gus).

Darren "Elvis" Lee

Darren Lee performed a tribute to Elvis on Mothers Day. Darren is a world champion Elvis tribute act, and has returned to Canada after an 11 year stint with the Superstars of Rock 'N Roll at the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas. Photo by James McGill.

International Gavel Passing

May 5, 2013


A good contingent of Canadians turned out for the 87th International Gavel Passing at the American Legion Post 86 in Blaine, Washington. This is a fun event in which a gavel is passed back and forth between Canadian Legion branches and American Legion posts once or twice a year. There was a parade and ceremony, followed by food, dancing and good fellowship. Shown here are some of the Canadian Colour Party.

Poster and Literary Competiton Presentations

Each year across Canada students compete in the Poster and Literary Contest to foster the tradition of Remembrance. The contest is judged at four levels: Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

On April 17, Comrade Gord Kendrick presented awards at a convocation at Precious Blood Catholic School. Here is a group photo showing Gord with the contest winners.

Divas Las Vegas

Brother and sister act Divas Las Vegas stagged a hilarious tribute to the leading ladies of Las Vegas including Cher, Dolly, Barbra, Bette and Shania. Audience participation was very much a part of the show.

Poster and Literary Competiton Presentations

April 12, 2013


Each year across Canada students compete in the Poster and Literary Contest to foster the tradition of Remembrance. The contest is judged at four levels: Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

Branch 6 had 120 entries submitted this year from five schools: Sullivan Heights, Fraser Heights Secondary, Erma Stevenson Elementary, Hazel Grove Elementary, and Precious Blood Catholic School.

On April 12, Comrade Gord Kendrick presented awards at the first four schools. Here he is shown making the presentations at Fraser Heights Secondary.

St. Patrick's Day

The Stewart School of Irish Dance performed for us. This group practices in our auditorium every Monday.


Also performing were the Fraser Valley Irish Dance Association another talented group of young people.

Susie Francis and her troupe put on an afternoon of music, dancing, comedy and fun at their annual Cloverdale Legion show. Thanks to all the performers and the audience members who joined them on stage.

Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal Presentation

January 19, 2013


Mel Hargas was presented with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Vancouver Naval Veterans Association. Shown making the presentation are (left to right) George Davidge, Naval Vets Sgt. At Arms (and Branch 6 member); Mel; John More, President of the Vancouver Naval Veterans Association; and Frank Redekop, Branch 6 President.

Mel is a World War II veteran. He served on an anti-submarine mine sweeper during the war. He has been with the VNVA for over 40 years, serving on their executive and colour party. He is also a long-time Legion member, and served on our colour party until recently.

Congratulations Mel. The award is well deserved!
