Remembrance Day

November 11, 2013


The Remembrance Day service in Museum Square was attended by an overflow crowd. Wreaths were laid, and a two minute silence was observed in memory of those who gave their lives for their country.

Terry Fox Run

September 15, 2013

Donation to Terry Fox Foundation

September 13, 2013


The Cloverdale Legion presented a cheque for $1,000 to the Terry Fox Foundation during the Friday night meat draws. Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Foundation is Elaine Gooliaeff. Making the presentation is Branch 6 President Frank Redekop.


Installation of Officers

July 5, 2013


Four officers were installed for a two year term. From left to right, new executive officers Scott McMillan and Derek (Del) Cook, and re-elected executives Darcy Copan and Ken Marjoram. President Frank Redekop was also sworn in for another one year term. First Vice President Earle Fraser and Second Vice President Glenn Thomsen will be sworn in at the next General Meeting.


The Ladies Auxiliary also held their installation of officers.


Canada Day

July 1, 2013


The Pacific Zone Colour Party, including Branch 6 members, led the parade officially opening Canada Day celebrations at the Cloverdale Millennium Amphitheatre.

General Meeting

June 26, 2013


At the monthly general meeting, Comrade Pat Keeping, Poppy Committee Chairperson, presented a cheque for $3,000 to Yolanda Bouwman of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation.


Comrade Darcy Copan, Ways & Means Chairperson, presented a cheque for $1,000 to Andrea Coogan, Development Officer of the BC Cancer Foundation, Fraser Valley Centre.


Boxing Show

June 23, 2013


A good crowd attended the amateur boxing show. The show was a tribute to the late Comrade Jimmy Gallagher. Organizer Comrade Ken Marjoram hopes to put on another show in the fall.


Open House

June 22, 2013


Branch 6 held an Open House as part of Legion Week in Canada.

The highlight of the Open House for many, particularly the kids, was a Russian tank crushing three cars. The tank was on loan from the Canadian Military Education Centre Museum in Chilliwack.

There were also a free pancake breakfast, free hot dogs, and lots of displays.

The Open House was held in partnership with four cadet corps: Seaforth Highlanders 2277, Seaforth Highlanders 2812, Mariners, and Air Cadets 746 Squadron.


Spinoza Bear Presentations

June 19, 2013


The Ladies Auxiliary presented Spinoza Bears to two five-year old boys, Jonathon Garafina and Slade Gibbs, following their General Meeting on June 19. Shown here is the presentation to Jonathon.

Spinoza bear kits, which feature personalized voice recordings, bring comfort to children with health issues.

Johnny Vallis was back for a return engagement at the Cloverdale Legion. The show opened with his tribute to Buddy Holly. He then performed a series of hilarious impersonations, with audience participation.

BC/Yukon Command Convention, Whistler

May 26 - 29, 2013


The convention began Sunday with a memorial service in Village Square followed by a parade down Village Stroll to the Olympic Plaza.

Rodeo Parade Bands

International Gavel Passing

May 5, 2013


A good contingent of Canadians turned out for the 87th International Gavel Passing at the American Legion Post 86 in Blaine, Washington. This is a fun event in which a gavel is passed back and forth between Canadian Legion branches and American Legion posts once or twice a year. There was a parade and ceremony, followed by food, dancing and good fellowship. Shown here are some of the Canadian Colour Party.

Poster and Literary Competiton Presentations

Each year across Canada students compete in the Poster and Literary Contest to foster the tradition of Remembrance. The contest is judged at four levels: Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

Brother and sister act Divas Las Vegas stagged a hilarious tribute to the leading ladies of Las Vegas including Cher, Dolly, Barbra, Bette and Shania. Audience participation was very much a part of the show.

Poster and Literary Competiton Presentations

April 12, 2013


Each year across Canada students compete in the Poster and Literary Contest to foster the tradition of Remembrance. The contest is judged at four levels: Primary, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

Branch 6 had 120 entries submitted this year from five schools: Sullivan Heights, Fraser Heights Secondary, Erma Stevenson Elementary, Hazel Grove Elementary, and Precious Blood Catholic School.

On April 12, Comrade Gord Kendrick presented awards at the first four schools. Here he is shown making the presentations at Fraser Heights Secondary.

St. Patrick's Day

The Stewart School of Irish Dance performed for us. This group practices in our auditorium every Monday.


Also performing were the Fraser Valley Irish Dance Association another talented group of young people.

Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal Presentation

January 19, 2013


Mel Hargas was presented with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Vancouver Naval Veterans Association. Shown making the presentation are (left to right) George Davidge, Naval Vets Sgt. At Arms (and Branch 6 member); Mel; John More, President of the Vancouver Naval Veterans Association; and Frank Redekop, Branch 6 President.

Mel is a World War II veteran. He served on an anti-submarine mine sweeper during the war. He has been with the VNVA for over 40 years, serving on their executive and colour party. He is also a long-time Legion member, and served on our colour party until recently.

Congratulations Mel. The award is well deserved!
